Sattva Ayurveda Aromatherapy
Rosemary Essential Oil 10 ml
The Greeks wove it into their hair before exams. They were right.
Rosemary and memory — a connection known long before science. In ancient Greece, students wove rosemary sprigs into their hair during exams, believing it improved recall. Today we know why: the carnosic acid in rosemary oil protects neurons from free-radical damage, and 1,8-cineole improves blood flow in the brain and the transmission of acetylcholine — the neurotransmitter directly responsible for memory and concentration. A study by Dr. Mark Moss of the University of Northumbria found that people in a rosemary-scented room scored 15% better on prospective memory tests than people in a room without the scent (PubMed).
In Ayurveda it is known as Rusmari or Saraswati — and it is no accident that it bears the name of the goddess of wisdom and learning. Rosemary is the classic oil for Kapha — it breaks through the heaviness, mental fog and lack of motivation that are the hallmark of an excess of this dosha. It warms and stimulates Vata in its cold, sluggish form. In Ayurvedic tradition it has been used for memory problems and mental fog, and as a stimulant for the nervous system.
An added bonus: it is one of the best-researched oils for hair loss — it stimulates microcirculation in the scalp and may inhibit the action of DHT. But more on that in the uses section.
