One morning you wake up and look at your thighs and buttocks – do you notice irregularities that attract your attention like an uninvited guest? Do you think it is a cosmetic skin defect and reach for more creams, Chinese banks or vacuum massages to temporarily smooth your skin, and then… see the same “dimples” again? If so, this article is for you. Because there is something that really works – effective and natural methods for cellulite according to Ayurveda, reaching the source of the problem, and not just masking the symptoms. Discover a holistic approach that will change your skin, and perhaps your whole life.
In this article:
In Western medicine, cellulite is defined as an uneven accumulation of fat and fluid in subcutaneous connective tissue compartments, which manifests itself as characteristic lumps and dimples. A review in the British Journal of Dermatology indicates that the causes include impaired microcirculation, fibrosis of connective tissue septa, excess fat and water, and chronic inflammation. (https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/32976174/)
However, fighting cellulite only from the outside (creams, mechanical massages) is often fighting symptoms. The Ayurvedic approach goes beyond this model, looking at the causes of cellulite as a systemic problem of digestive disorders, lymphatic drainage and dosha balance.
Ayurveda does not know the term "cellulite," but it describes the mechanism that causes it. At the center is the Kapha dosha, responsible for the body's structure, fat tissue, and fluids. When Kapha is in excess, the body becomes heavy, damp, and sluggish. At the same time, weak agni (digestive fire) produces ama, a sticky residue of toxic food residues. Ama clogs the srotas (lymphatic channels), which inhibits drainage and causes fat and fluids to be retained in the meda dhatu (fatty tissue).
As a result, cellulite is created: fluid and toxin stasis in the tissue, chronic microinflammation (developing the Pitta component) and stiffening of collagen fibers, which form characteristic lumps.
“Ama is the root of all disease – without proper digestion, toxins accumulate and block the channels of the body.”
— Charaka Samhita
