Himalayan Shilajit – the resin that strengthens. An Ayurvedic guide to its properties, effects and use.
There are many herbs and substances in Ayurveda that support the body in a natural way. Some energize, others calm, and there are those that... do both. Shilajit belongs to this last category. This dark, thick resin extracted high in the Himalayas has commanded the respect of Ayurvedic doctors for centuries. Today, it is gaining popularity outside of India as a natural adaptogen that helps restore balance and vitality. If you feel overloaded, tired, or simply want to support your immunity and regeneration, Shilajit may be what you are looking for.
Below you will find a practical guide, based on Ayurvedic tradition and modern research, which will help you understand what Shilajit really is and how to use it wisely – in accordance with the rhythm of your body.

Shilajit (mummy) – what is it?
Shilajit, also known as mumio, is a natural resinous substance that seeps from rocks in the high Himalayas. It is formed over thousands of years from decaying plant matter – it is a slow process, but it creates something truly extraordinary. A thick, black mass with an intense smell and an even more intense effect. In Sanskrit, its name literally means “destroyer of weakness” – and that is no exaggeration. In Ayurveda, Shilajit is classified as a rasayana – a rejuvenating agent that strengthens ojas, or the subtle energy of life.
In practice? This is a preparation that can help when you lack strength, concentration, immunity or simply feel that your body needs deeper support. And what is important - Shilajit from Sattva Ayurveda is in its most authentic form: purified resin, not capsules or powder.

Why does Shilajit work?
From a scientific point of view, Shilajit is a real bomb of active ingredients: over 85 minerals in ionic form, amino acids, antioxidants and – most importantly – fulvic and humic acids . The latter act as natural conductors – they support the absorption of nutrients, support detoxification processes, soothe inflammation, and protect cells from oxidative stress.
What's more, studies show that Shilajit increases the production of ATP , the basic source of energy in cells. The effect? More physical and mental energy, better concentration, faster regeneration. Studies (including PMC3296184 ) have also noted a beneficial effect on cognitive functions and testosterone levels in men. But it is not a supplement "for one problem" - its action is complex and supports the entire body.
What can you gain by using Shilajit?
We don’t like to promise miracles, but the effects of regular use of this resin are really wide-ranging. Many people notice improvement after a few days, others after a few weeks – but almost everyone talks about “greater lightness in the body” and “greater clarity in the head”. Here’s what Shilajit can do:
supports the immune system and improves the body's natural immunity,
-
supports the regeneration of tissues, muscles, and skin,
improves concentration, memory and cognitive functions ,
it has an adaptogenic effect – it helps to cope with stress better,
supports hormonal balance, especially in men,
improves metabolism and regulates sugar levels,
gives you energy – but without the “stimulation” like after coffee.
In the Ayurvedic tradition, Shilajit is said to “restore presence to the body” – something many of us desperately need today.

Who is Shilajit for?
In practice: for anyone who feels they need a boost. But we especially recommend it to people:
who live fast, intensely, work a lot (mentally or physically),
who experience chronic fatigue, burnout, low mood,
who have had infections and want to support regeneration,
who care about immunity and look for natural ways to gain vitality,
older people – as support for memory, strength and general condition.
Shilajit is not recommended for pregnant or breastfeeding women or children. In case of chronic diseases, it is worth consulting a doctor or Ayurvedic specialist about supplementation.
How to use Shilajit?
The rule here is “less is more.” Shilajit is extremely concentrated – we recommend a portion the size of a grain of rice (approx. 100–200 mg) per day, then gradually increase it to 500 mg. Dissolve it in warm water, plant milk or herbal infusion (e.g. ashwagandha, tulsi, cinnamon) and drink in the morning on an empty stomach or in the evening – if you care more about regeneration.
It is good practice to use it in cycles:
4–6 weeks of use, then 2–4 weeks off.
This gives the body time to absorb, process and “breathe”.
If symptoms such as headache, nausea appear – it may mean that the dose was too high. Then simply reduce the portion or take a break. You do not have to rush – Shilajit works slowly but deeply.
What makes Shilajit different from Sattva Ayurveda?
First: origin . Our product is a resin from the pure Himalayan regions – harvested sustainably and in accordance with nature.
Secondly: purity and concentration – it contains as much as 64% fulvic acids , which makes it one of the most active shilajits on the market.
Third, the form of the resin – not capsules, not powder, but authentic, sticky resin – exactly as it has been used in Ayurveda for centuries.
And finally: the Sattva Ayurveda philosophy – each of our products is created with balance, quality and holistic support for people in mind, not just one-way “action”.
Mumio and Shilajit – are they the same?
This is a common question. The answer is: not always . "Mumio" is a general name used in various traditions - also in Persian, Arabic or folk medicine. It can refer to various resins and sediments, with different compositions. Himalayan Shilajit , which we offer at Sattva Ayurveda, is an exceptionally rich and active form of Mumio. That is why in our article we talk about Shilajit, but we also use the word "Mumio" - because we know that many of you are looking for it in this way.

Summary
Shilajit is more than a supplement. It is a resin – literally and symbolically – that unites and strengthens. It combines the power of the earth, time, heat, minerals and vegetation that have matured in the mountains for thousands of years. If you feel that your body needs support, but do not want to reach for synthetic means – start with something natural. Start with Shilajit.
Because sometimes just one seed is enough – to come back to yourself.
Frequently asked questions
Are Shilajit and mumio the same?
Not quite. “Mumio” is a general term used in various traditions of natural medicine – often referring to similar resinous substances, but of different origin and composition. Shilajit is a specific form of mumio, described in Ayurveda, originating mainly from the Himalayas and rich in fulvic acids. It is the Himalayan Shilajit that is considered the purest, most active and effective form.
What does Shilajit taste and smell like?
It has an intense, earthy smell and a bitter, slightly smoky taste. But it is the naturalness of this resin that is its strength. When dissolved in warm water, plant milk or herbal infusion, the taste is milder and easier to accept.
Can Shilajit be combined with other herbs or supplements?
Yes, Shilajit works well with many Ayurvedic herbs, such as Ashwagandha, Tulsi, Amalaki, and Guduchi. Together, they can create synergistic effects. However, if you are taking synthetic supplements or prescription medications, it is worth consulting your doctor or Ayurvedic therapist.
How long will it take until I see the effects?
It depends on the body. Some people feel more energy and better concentration after a few days. Others need 2-4 weeks of regular use. Remember that Shilajit works deeply and long-term - it is not an "energy drink", but a natural way to rebuild inner balance.
Does Shilajit also work for women?
Of course. Although often promoted as a support for male hormonal balance, Shilajit also works great for women – it supports the immune, energy, nervous systems, regulates metabolism and improves vitality. In women, it is worth being especially careful in the case of pregnancy and lactation – then it is better to avoid it.
Can I take Shilajit daily?
Yes – but with caution. We recommend cyclical use : 4–6 weeks of supplementation, then 2–4 weeks off. This gives the body time to assimilate and rest. This is also in line with the Ayurvedic principle: less, but regularly.
Who is Shilajit not recommended for?
We do not recommend Shilajit to children, pregnant or breastfeeding women, or people with serious chronic diseases without prior consultation with a doctor. It is a natural preparation, but it works intensively - it is better to use it consciously and mindfully.
