Manjistha (Rubia cordifolia), also known as Indian madder, is one of the most valued herbs in Ayurveda, sourced from pristine regions of the Himalayas. In traditional care it is used both for facial skin care and for natural hair coloring.

Thanks to its high content of purpurin and munjistin, Manjistha gives hair warm peach, pink and purple tones, enhancing your natural shade or intensifying the color of henna. Added to a henna or cassia blend, it gives the color depth, shine and longevity, while caring for the scalp and preventing dryness and flaking.

In facial care, it has a cleansing, toning and regenerating effect. Manjistha supports skin detoxification, helps soothe inflammation and acne, softens the look of dark spots, evens out skin tone and restores a healthy glow to the complexion. Thanks to its antioxidant and anti-aging properties, it also works well in the care of mature, redness-prone and sensitive skin.

You can use this herb in Ayurvedic masks, toners and scrubs, combining it with ingredients such as amla, hibiscus, tulsi or rose powder to boost the cleansing and brightening effect on the skin.

Who is rubia good for?

For anyone who wants cleansed, refreshed skin with a more even tone, as well as for those who use natural plant-based hair dyes and want to deepen the color effect of henna.

For hair: Add 1–2 tablespoons of Manjistha to your henna or cassia blend. Mix with warm water, let it sit for 30 minutes, then apply to your hair and leave on for 1–3 hours.
For the face: Mix 1 teaspoon of the powder with rose water or a hydrosol. Apply to your face, leave on for 10–15 minutes, then rinse off with lukewarm water.
