Curly Hair, Waves and Curls – Curly Care

Curly hair products that understand your curl pattern
Waves, curls and coils are naturally a little drier than straight hair. Sebum has a harder time traveling along a curled strand, the cuticle is more raised, and moisture escapes with every change in the weather. You know the result: frizz, loss of definition, brittle ends.
Sattva Curly Haircare is a line of six products that together make up a complete routine — from washing to styling. Each one works on its own, so you can also add a single step to what you already use.
Your curly routine, step by step
- Washing. Moisturizing Shampoo for Curly Hair cleanses with gentle surfactants, without SLS. Murumuru butter and extracts of hibiscus and fenugreek care for your hair while you wash. For types 2A–4C.
- Conditioning. Curl-Defining Conditioner is built on shea butter and oils: coconut, argan, almond and avocado. Wheat proteins, panthenol and Sodium PCA smooth the hair and lock moisture into each strand. For types 2A–3C.
- Once a week: a mask. Nourishing Curl-Defining Mask lists shea butter, cocoa butter and coconut oil right after water in its ingredients, plus lactic acid for definition. For curls and coils 3A–4C — for high-porosity hair, it can replace your conditioner.
- Curl activation. Leave-In Curl Activator is a leave-in you apply to wet hair before styling. It moisturizes and preps your curl pattern without weighing waves down. For types 2A–3C.
- Styling. Curl-Defining Cream for Wavy Hair defines waves and gives a light hold thanks to tapioca starch (2A–2C). Curl-Defining Gel holds your curls all day, and the cast is easy to scrunch out with your hands (2B–3C). You can combine the cream and the gel.
How to match products to your curl type
| Hair type | Your routine |
|---|---|
| Waves 2A–2C | Shampoo, conditioner, curl activator, cream. Gel if your waves fall flat quickly. |
| Curls 3A–3C | Shampoo, conditioner or mask, curl activator, gel. |
| Coils 4A–4C | Shampoo, plus the mask as your main conditioner. |
Porosity matters. Low-porosity hair needs less product and absorbs it better with warmth — a steamy bathroom after a shower is enough. High-porosity hair can handle more product and more frequent masks.
Ayurveda in your curly routine
Hibiscus, fenugreek and neem have been part of Ayurvedic hair care for centuries. In the Curly line, they work alongside plant butters and oils: hibiscus in the shampoo and cream, fenugreek in the shampoo, neem in the cream. Tradition in a modern formula — without pretending the herbs do more than they do.
What's in the formulas and what isn't
- No SLS or SLES — the shampoo cleanses with gentle surfactants.
- No CAPB anywhere in the line.
- Silicone-free: shampoo, conditioner, mask, curl activator and gel.
- The curl-defining cream contains a small amount of silicone resin (Polymethylsilsesquioxane). If you follow the CGM method strictly, pair the rest of the line with the gel instead of the cream.
You'll find the full INCI list on each product page. Check for yourself — that's how it should be.
Frequently asked questions
Are Sattva Curly products compatible with the CGM method?
Five of the six products are: the shampoo, conditioner, mask, curl activator and gel are free from silicones, SLS and CAPB. The cream contains a small amount of silicone resin, so if you follow the CGM method strictly, choose the gel for styling.
Where should I start if I'm new to curly care?
With three steps: shampoo, conditioner and curl activator. Then add the cream if you have waves, or the gel if you have curls.
How is the curl activator different from the cream and the gel?
The activator moisturizes and preps your curl pattern. The cream moisturizes and pre-defines, giving a light hold. The gel sets your curls for the whole day. They work best layered, in this order.
Will these products make straight hair curly?
No. They enhance the curl pattern your hair naturally has — from soft waves to coils. On naturally straight hair (type 1), they won't create curls.
How often should I use the mask?
Once a week. With 3A–4C curls and high porosity, you can use it instead of conditioner every time you wash your hair.
