Sattva Ayurveda Aromatherapy
Bergamot Essential Oil 10 ml
You know this scent from Earl Grey. But that's just the tip of the iceberg.
Bergamot is a citrus fruit that never made it to the table — it made it into perfumery and aromatherapy instead. Its oil is one of the most widely used perfumery ingredients in the world and, at the same time, one of the most thoroughly clinically studied oils that affect mood. A 2015 clinical study of 41 healthy women found that inhaling bergamot oil lowers salivary cortisol levels to a statistically significant degree, reduces perceived anxiety and improves mood — as measured on standardized psychological scales. This is not an aromatherapy promise. It is a result published in a peer-reviewed scientific journal.
The mechanism is easy to understand: linalool and linalyl acetate — bergamot's main active compounds — have an anxiolytic effect on the limbic system and stimulate the release of dopamine and serotonin. In Ayurveda, bergamot balances Vata and Kapha — it brings emotional warmth, breaks through stagnation and apathy, and restores an appetite for life. Traditionally used for depression, anxiety and lack of motivation.
The scent? Citrusy and fresh, with a floral and slightly spicy note in the background. One of those oils that make it hard to be in a bad mood.
