Sattva Ayurveda Aromatherapy
Frankincense Essential Oil 10 ml
Some scents have a history going back thousands of years. This one has been at the top of the list from the very beginning.
Frankincense is not a trendy oil. It is one of the oldest and most precious aromas in human history — mentioned in Egyptian papyri, Vedic texts, the Bible and the Quran. The Babylonians and Assyrians burned Boswellia resin in their temples, believing that the rising smoke carried prayers to the gods. The Egyptians used it for embalming and in sun rituals. In India, it is known as Dhoop — an essential part of puja, the daily offering ritual. The Three Wise Men brought it as one of their three gifts. For thousands of years, in almost every culture and religion in the world — the same scent, the same intention: connecting with something greater.
Today we know why it serves this purpose so well. Alpha-pinene, the main active compound in frankincense oil, slows and deepens the breath — physiologically bringing the nervous system into a state of calm and focus. This is neither a metaphor nor a placebo effect. It is biochemistry: slower breathing activates the parasympathetic nervous system, lowers cortisol levels and quiets the “fight or flight” mode. That is why frankincense has accompanied meditation for thousands of years — and why it works.
In Ayurveda, it belongs to a very small group of ingredients that balance all three doshas at once — Vata, Pitta and Kapha. Traditionally used for inflammatory joint conditions (known as Shallaki), skin problems and nervous tension, and as an oil supporting longevity — Rasayana.
