Sattva Ayurveda Aromatherapy
Thyme Essential Oil 10 ml
Thyme has been part of every Mediterranean kitchen for thousands of years. But before it reached the plate — it was an apothecary herb.
Thyme and protection against infections — a connection known long before microbiology. The ancient Greeks and Romans burned it in temples to purify the air. The Egyptians used it for embalming. For centuries it was both a spice and a remedy — and it filled both roles well. Today we know why — thymol, the oil's main active compound, is one of the most thoroughly researched natural antimicrobial agents. Laboratory studies confirm its effectiveness against a broad spectrum of pathogens — Staphylococcus aureus, Helicobacter pylori, Candida albicans and even the Herpes simplex virus. The mechanism: thymol literally pierces bacterial cell membranes, causing their contents to leak out and the cell to die.
In Ayurveda, thyme is known as Vanya Yavani or Van Ajwayan — used for respiratory complaints and digestive problems, and to strengthen Agni (the digestive fire). A classic oil for Kapha — it breaks through stagnation, clears excess mucus from the airways and strengthens natural immunity. Ayurvedic theory links its bitter and astringent taste with reducing Kapha, soothing inflammation and better cleansing of the respiratory system.
One of the few oils that is both antibacterial and energizing — it invigorates and protects at the same time.
