Basmati rice 1 kg – premium, long-grain, aromatic
Basmati rice is a long-grain rice variety from India and Pakistan, where for centuries it has been regarded as a symbol of culinary excellence. The word “basmati” means “full of aroma” – and indeed, this variety stands out for its unique fragrance and delicate, nutty flavor, which gives dishes a distinctive character.
Is basmati rice healthier than regular white rice?
Yes – basmati rice is considered a healthier alternative to regular white rice. It has a lower glycemic index (approx. 50–55), which means it raises blood sugar levels more slowly. It is also less processed, easier on the digestive system and more aromatic. The brown version also provides fiber and more trace elements, which is why it is especially recommended for people watching their weight, people who are physically active and those following a balanced diet.
How to cook basmati rice so it turns out fluffy:
-
Before cooking, rinse the rice thoroughly in cold water until the water runs clear.
-
Use a ratio of 1 cup of rice to 1.5–2 cups of water.
-
Cook covered over low heat for approx. 10–12 minutes, then leave to stand for 5 minutes so the rice can finish cooking.
This way it will be perfectly fluffy and aromatic.
White vs. brown basmati rice – what's the difference?
Basmati rice comes in two main varieties – white and brown (whole grain). White basmati has a more delicate flavor, cooks faster and has a light, fluffy texture. Brown basmati rice, on the other hand, keeps its outer bran layer, which makes it richer in fiber, B vitamins, magnesium and iron. Its flavor is slightly nuttier, and its texture firmer and more filling. The choice between them depends on your individual needs – white basmati works well in light dishes and everyday cooking, while brown suits weight-loss and cleansing diets.
Culinary uses:
Basmati rice is an excellent base for Asian dishes, curries, biryani, pilafs, and dishes with vegetables and tofu. It also works well as a side dish with meat and sauces.
Storing basmati rice:
Store the rice in an airtight container in a cool, dry place. This way it will keep its characteristic aroma and freshness for a long time.
